a cabin on Cabo Polonio

The silhouette of this minimum ranch, almost a mirage in the dunes of the Uruguayan coast. Style and simplicity in a few meters. Cabo Polonio enjoys the reputation of a mythical land, nourished by both unusual anecdotes about the people who live there year-round and those who choose it as a destination for the summer. It is those people who opt for the Cape despite its isolation and lack of amenities such as electricity that do it clearly for that something special. The tranquility of the environment irregardless of the blowing wind or the scorching sand, and the harsh sun above you ; a truly majestic environment to set your heart free, for the summer.

The owner of this ranch had spent years vacationing in the area, until he decided to have a place there. With several improvements made by a team of local builders, under the advice of the architect Alejandro Gonzalez, this seaside cabin won in his few meters. The materials used are very simple, as all houses on Cabo Polonio.

The design employs several space-maximizing tricks: A jute rug with only a small cushioned "sofa" makes the singular main room feel like an adaptable space. An unvarying neutral color palette keeps the hut from feeling cluttered, and lets discrete spaces "borrow" elbow room from each other. Ample use of cushions negates the need for bulky furniture, and furnishings that do exist--such as cabinets, tables, and stools--are quite petite.
